I went to Thaiparpa yesterday for a therapeutic massage session. I had a partial frozen shoulder and lot of pain in my upper back and neck due to continuous work on laptop and phone.
I was blown away with their knowledge of human anatomy and muscle movements. They almost fixed my frozen shoulder in 1 sitting(I had been going to a PT for almost 6 months and that PT said it will take atleast 1 year to fix my problem and sometimes it takes longer. I plan to never believe a PT unless they demonstrate similar or higher knowledge)

The level of knowledge, passion in the treatment, ability to suggest exercises and proactive follow up is amazing. They are more than a massage places. I have been to a few massage places over my lifetime but haven’t come across any place with such deep understanding of human anatomy and such motivation to help people improve their lifestyle.

I feel very lucky to have found them and I will be going back for any and all issues as long as I live in Bay Area....more

I've been here more than a dozen times. Normally, they provide excellent service, but the last time I was here, I think the lady was on her phone texting. I didn’t actually see her texting because it was dark and I was face down, but she would pause multiple times for 30 seconds to a minute in the middle of the massage, with one hand on me and the other on her phone. I had wonderful Thai prenatal massage here - much better than the traditional prenatal massage I recently had at a resort during a vacation in Scottsdale! This one was the perfect pressure to get my blood flow circulating and the masseuse was very confident with her handwork. Unlike my last prenatal massage where i was face down and back focused, this one massaged my back, chest, arms, hips, and legs (all sides) - it was amazing and just what my body needed. I’ve tried many massage places, but I always come back to Thiparpa. Everyone you get here is excellent and the price is reasonable. If I have a bad day or I couldn’t sleep the night before, I always feel better after a session here. During the massage (I get Thai combo) nothing much is said, which I like, and the full hour goes by extremely luxuriously. I always hate to go after the session because I feel so attached after they save my life 😣

Recently I had a masseuse named Usa (love the name!) She is brilliant and I plan on always asking for her. She gets to spots that other masseuse haven’t gotten to before and I really like that. She’s also gentle but firm. I love her!

minus 1 star for a couple unexpected things:
- i booked online and was assigned one person but ended up having another. i overheard the original person’s name mentioned so she was there, just working on someone else.
- the massage i got didn’t match the description on the website. it was still good! just not what i was expecting AT ALL. either the description needs to be updated or staff communication needs work.

long, overly detailed review below, mostly intended for first timers like me who didn’t know what to expect 😅

my mom suggested this place and it has great reviews so i went online and booked the destress (back and shoulders) massage. thiparpa is located in a small plaza with ample free parking. upon entering, you leave your shoes by the benches and switch to indoor slippers if able but socks are ok too. the room i was in had a step to go up and curtain doors and walls. i didn’t hear much conversation, just calming music and a relaxed patron snoring lol there’s a plush floor mat and pillows to support your head and feet. i was given loose pants to change into and removed the rest of my clothes and placed it in the provided bin. remove jewelry and put your hair up before lying down!

while face down, my feet, legs, butt, back, shoulders, arms, and neck were worked on, some moments through a sheet and some directly on my skin with oil. before turning over, the massage therapist wiped off the oil with a hot towel. while face up, he did my shoulders, arms, neck, and head and a bunch of stretching and twists on both sides too, like holding onto each others’ wrists and pulling or stretching my arm one way and lower body another 🥨 it ended with me sitting criss-cross and more stretching. he did a great job of maintaining my modesty, which i appreciated since when i sat up there was a crack in the curtain door. the pressure was intense but welcome and he did check in with me to make sure i was ok.

i am still unsure if i really got the destress massage since it appears that i received aspects of a traditional thai massage. i’d suggest the website descriptions get updated to give a proper preview of what the massages entail if this was intended. or if i received the wrong massage, then i hope communication between staff improves. despite the unexpected, it was great and intense and a step to getting my body to be less tense....more

I had some pain earlier in the day in my upper back. I called and was able to come in that evening. My massage therapist was amazing! She found so many knots and began working on them. She was constantly asking me if I was okay and making sure the pressure wasn't too much for me. I was fine with the pressure it was very intense but it was great exactly what I needed! I was honestly surprised to learn that she was holding back and could have applied even more pressure!

What I really liked is that she told me how to stretch out my shoulder. That showed me that she cared about my wellbeing and I plan on coming at least once a month....more

I read previous reviews and went in yesterday for the first time. I had a lot of long-standing tension and pain in my back, hips, arms, legs...pretty much everywhere. After an hour and a half, I left without the stiffness and pain I walked in with. The practitioner worked very hard, knowing exactly which style of massage to work with, actually utilizing several. She communicated with me continuously to be sure I was comfortable with all the techniques she used. Afterwards, I could not believe how fluid I felt walking across the parking lot, and slept comfortably all night.

When it comes to understanding the mechanics and true workings of muscular aches and pains, as well as other disorders that occur as the sequelae of untreated musculoskeletal conditions, the intelligent massage therapists at Thiparpa Thai Massage in Foster City, CA are the personnel you should be visiting. After reading some of these reviews, I could not believe how much progress people have made coming here. However, after doing my own due diligence in this personal commitment to alleviating my own body issues, I too now have the wonderful pleasure of saying that my neck and lower back issues have gotten TREMENDOUSLY BETTER after dedicating myself to going at least ONCE A MONTH (which I recommend to be the minimum frequency). To shed more background on my own issue, I suffered a C4 herniation at the age of 17 while performing barbell back squats. I had frozen shoulder, and had gone to physical therapy for 6 months after taking Cortisone shot. There was slight improvement in my range of motion after physical therapy but still basic function like putting my hand on the hip or raising my hand above my head was not possible.

I was lucky to get introduced to this Thiparpa Thai Massage by my neighbor. After few therapies from here, my range of motions got back to normal. Thanks to therapist who took the time to listen to my situation patiently and tailor a therapy specific to my situation.

I had undergone a knee surgery few months ago due to which all the muscles in my leg were very stiff and this was causing me to limp. My massage therapist was amazing and she was able to intuitively figure out the knots and tight spots in my calves, hamstrings and quads. She started with slow massage to warm me up and then dug deep into those knots. She also stretched my muscles and that felt so good, I could feel all the muscles loosening up.

At the end of the massage when I was walking up to the front desk I noticed that I wasn't limping as much :) I was so happy to see this change just in one hour. I will be definitely visiting this place again and highly recommend it to anyone who are looking for high quality massage from knowledgeable therapists....more

My experience at Thiparpa Thai Massage has been excellent! I have had my best massages here (and I have had many). Jane and her team are excellent. Meena and Jiji take a lot of time to understand all the pain points in your body and work relentlessly to fix them. And they are excellent at it. I went to them throughout my pregnancy, infact 2 days before I delivered my daughter. After my baby was born, I had a lot of body pain. Jane helped schedule regular massages for me with her team and it has helped me a lot throughout my post-partun recovery. My mother had a severe frozen shoulder problem and Jane helped my mother tremendously. Not only are they very good at Thai massage, they have a very high cleanliness standard. I came here on a whim as I was driving back to South Bay from SF and boy am I glad I did. I came in with a throbbing headache and aching muscles from working out. I was greeted by a friendly woman named Jane and suggested I go with Alex, a male masseuse. I went ahead with her suggestion and found myself asking for 90min instead of just 60min halfway through. Alex gave the perfect amount of pressure, worked on all the spots that needed attention, and got rid of my headache. It was a 5 stars massage!! The ginger tea at the end was also delicious. I also prefer Thai massage places that provide pants or clothing, and here they gave pants. The pillows were comfortable but the curtains could have provided a bit more privacy when changing. Besides that, no issues at all. I recognized one of the masseuses named Jai from a different massage spot I used to go to. Definitely coming back here for either Alex or Jai. If you prefer a woman, go with Jai. I bought a gift certificate for a friend too. I recommend it!...more

This is not a relaxing massage, it is a therapeutic massage (unless of course you ask for a relaxing one). At first I thought it was going to be a soft disappointing massage and then five minutes into the massage Mina started finding my knots and working them out. I could tell that she knew what she was doing because she didn't stop working on the problem areas until they were fixed. I enjoyed the mix of her using hands, fingers and walking on me to be able to apply the right pressure to various muscle groups. Also she used a soothing mix of oil and therapeutic ointment on other areas. The room was clean and the ambience calming. There were five masseuse there working and they were booked back to back until 6pm as far as I could see from the schedule. So must be very popular to be this busy! It is best to book ahead I would say. Lovely chat after the massage and a glass of warm water to rehydrate....more

Where do I begin.... Love love love this place! The price is amazing for what you get. They really take their time working every bit of your body, spots you never knew existed and muscles you didn't know u had. If you have anything that requires more work, let them know and they will focus on it and still finish your whole body. I've tried a few different methods and places for my back problems, but I have never felt as good anywhere else. The front desk gal is super nice and accommodating. I recommend this place for a good price and a good Thai massage. If you enjoy deep tissue.... This is it! I asked for a Swedish but this was my bad.... I went to a Thai massage place so not sure what I was expecting. They politely told me they can do it and while it was nice and the oils smelled great and the women was so sweet, it was not a Swedish massage in fact I was in pain the next day. Some folks like this and need this type of massage I am just not one of them. I am just putting this out there for the fragile folks! Really awesome place though otherwise....more
